Here at Opticare, we are proud of the work we do and the role we play in our local community. To help protect the future of our planet, we have researched and invested in various systems to further our commitment of ‘going green’. Below is just some of the work we have been doing to ensure we are, and will continue to be, an environmentally sustainable business:
Recycling Water
Our water recycling and filtration system in our lens glazing lab in Newark saves over 45,000 litres of water a year, compared to conventional systems. It also filters small particles from our lens edging machine, meaning less contaminated waste water down the drain.

We have installed solar panels at all 4 of our branches to provide clean renewable energy. The panels are situated on the roofs of our practices and provide power to run our practices every day.

Using electronic systems cuts down on paper waste and usage. We have invested in practice management software and digital marketing to cut down on paper usage and also invested in electronic forms for NHS vouchers and eye tests.

Energy efficient lighting is now used throughout our branches in Anstey, Birstall, Newark & Sileby. The project makes use of energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the public areas, and sensors in non-public areas to reduce energy waste.

Our contact lens recycling programme in partnership with Acuvue allows customers (and non-customers) to safely dispose of their used contact lenses and blister packs. Just collect your used lenses together and pop in your nearest branch. We’ll take them off your hands.

We’re proud to announce that through working with our partners, our website runs on 100% renewable energy. The internet uses a lot of power, it’s estimated that data centres that host websites and services are responsible for somewhere between 1% – 3% of global energy use.
