Contact lenses FAQs

Is wearing contacts safe?

When properly cared for, contact lenses can correct your vision safely and effectively. However, if you’re not practising good hygiene, wearing contact lenses can increase your chance of getting an eye infection. Under professional guidance, contact lenses can provide a safe and effective means of correcting vision.

Depending on the lens, the manufacturer, and your eye condition, you may need to wear the lens for a different amount of time. You can wear most types of soft, disposable contact lenses for 12 to 16 hours at a time, but you should consult your optician first.

There are certain situations when you should avoid wearing contact lenses to protect your eye health, for example, when you have an eye infection, when you’re experiencing allergies or when following eye surgery. You should not wear contact lenses while swimming or sleeping to avoid infections.
