trying out multifocal contact lenses

Options Supreme Multifocal Contact Lenses – Real World Trial

As an Opticare customer, I was asked to write a real-world review of trying these new revolutionary multifocal contact lenses from Options Supreme.

As a constant glasses wearer, I struggle to see distance, but recently I’ve also started to struggle to see close up. My glasses work well but are not always practical in life. And if you are also a glasses wearer you’ll know the problem of putting them down and then trying to find them again.

Recently on a visit to Opticare, I was informed about Options Supreme multifocal contact lenses. Now I’m not a big contact lens wearer. I struggle to put them in, and then, as they are fixed for distance vision I struggle with close-up vision, Such as reading my phone. Hence I only wear contacts 4 or 5 times a year.

The Options Supreme multifocal contact lenses can adapt to close (long-sighted) and far away (short-sighted) vision, just like my glasses with sync III lenses. The advantage of these contact lenses is, that they are with me all day. No chance of putting them down and losing them or, when playing a sport, them falling & breaking.

I wore the multifocal contact lenses over a 5-day period. And made notes on how they compared to my regular glasses and my occasional fixed contact lenses.

First impressions of Options Supreme Multifocal Contact Lenses

Now, inserting contact lenses is a bit of a struggle for me. Mainly because I only do it a few times a year, so I’m not well practised. These contact lenses though are much softer and I did find them easier to insert. After 5 days I was much more capable of putting them in.

They felt comfortable, in fact, it was hard to know if they were in. I’m used to having slight irritation after first inserting contact lenses (which I believe is down to not wearing them very often), which I always found reassuring because I knew I had managed to insert them correctly. These Options Supreme were much softer and I had no such irritation. This was great, but I did wonder if I had managed to insert them. This soon became clear though, when I looked into the distance and I could see clearly.

In terms of seeing, distance vision was excellent, just like my current glasses. Seeing close up, such as my phone screen, took a bit of getting used to. I can read my phone screen better without the contact lenses, than with them, but they still work. I also found as time went on, my eyes got more used to them and it became easier to read my phone screen. Anything beyond my phone screen all the way to distance was perfect. Compared to my old contact lenses they were a massive improvement.

Multifocal Contact Lenses & Computer Work

My day job requires constant use of a computer. Working in an office looking at a screen pretty much all day.

Again, at first, they took a bit of getting used to. The very first time, it was hard to focus on the screen, but after a few days, I got used to it and it was OK.

I did notice when I didn’t wear them, and just used my eyes with no glasses or contacts, it was easier to read the screen, but the distance is brilliant with them. so it’s a bit of a compromise. I lose a little on the close range but massively gain on far away vision. Overall, I was happy with this compromise as everyday life became easier moving around, seeing people and seeing out windows etc.

Driving with Multifocal Contact Lenses

Now the real advantage of these contact lenses came with driving. Getting up from the computer and jumping in the car to travel to a meeting was brilliant. No looking for glasses – where did I put them? Just pack up, jump in the car and off you go.

Daytime driving worked great. Just as good as my glasses. The distance was clear, the dials in the car were clear, and adjusting between the 2 was no problem.

Evening and night driving was also perfect. I was slightly worried as my glasses have an anti-glare coating for driving at night, but I had no trouble with this. The driving was a real surprise and a great plus for the contact lenses.

Using for Sport

One thing I was looking forward to was trying them in sport. I play 7-a-side football with friends and I play without glasses, as they are likely to fall off and get broken. This then means I have to wear fixed contact lenses, which means I can no longer read my phone. Or I go without – which is what I do. The consequence of this is that I struggle to see to the other end of the pitch. It’s quite blurred up that end. Not the best for those raking cross-field passes.

The multifocal contact lenses solved that problem instantly. I could see the other end of the pitch perfectly – pick out players, faces and names. I could then read my phone at the end of the match (check up on the latest Mansfield Town score) and still drive home – without any faffing of removing contacts putting on glasses removing glasses etc.  Unfortunately, the only thing the contact lenses didn’t improve was the quality of my game. 🙁

Watching TV

I actually found watching TV easier with contact lenses than with my glasses. As my glasses have different strengths at the bottom of the lens than through the main part of the lens, I often end up tilting my glasses so I see through the right part to watch TV. This is generally when I’m being lazy and lying down on the sofa to watch.

Cooking with Multifocal Contact Lenses

Sunday Lunch is a tradition in our family, and it’s my job on a Sunday morning to cook the Sunday Lunch. With the multifocal contact lenses, cooking was a breeze. Normally, I’d be putting on my glasses and removing them and then putting them on again as I move about the kitchen, weighing ingredients, reading the clock on the wall, reading recipes from my phone and then reading the oven timer across the kitchen.

With my new contact lenses in, this became easier and quicker, especially after using a computer for a few days and getting used to them. No more hunting for glasses hidden behind the flour.

Socialising

On a night out, they were great. I could drive there with no problem and then chat with people around the table, the different focal distances were no problem. Again, none of the problems of removing glasses, putting them down, picking them up, or trying to find them on the table.

Reading the menu was also a pleasant surprise. You are given the menu which was easy enough to read with contact lenses, but then the specials board across the room was also readable. Brilliant! I don’t think I’ve been able to do this before, without fiddling with glasses.

Summary

Overall I was really impressed with the Options Supreme multifocal contact lenses. Watching TV, cooking, driving and socialising were real surprises in how well they worked. Working with a screen every day was slightly harder, but much better than standard contact lenses. I think if I can get used to wearing contact lenses every day, then this will be much better.

I will be ordering more from Opticare in Newark. I’ll just need to get practising putting in contact lenses, and who knows, maybe it will eventually improve my footballing ability.

Thanks, Nigel
