Prescription Sunglasses for Summer

As the days heat up more and more and we arrive in the summer months, our normal glasses are not the best for the outdoors. Now the sun is shining this becomes a problem for prescription glasses wearers due to the increased amount of sunlight that can cause glare on their eyes.

The most common solution is to wear sunglasses, but then if you wear sunglasses how can you see properly without your prescription lenses? So what do you do? Well, you can get prescription sunglasses with special lenses that suit you.

Single Vision Lenses for Sunglasses

Single vision lenses have only one prescription to correct one issue – for example, if you are long-sighted or short-sighted. They are most often used for only one purpose such as driving or reading.

If you’re under 40 and require glasses, it’s most likely that you’ll be prescribed single-vision lenses.

Polarised Lenses for Sunglasses

With our polarised lenses, blinding reflections and visual discomfort are no longer an issue. Reduced glare and enhanced contrast offer supreme visual performance, comfort and protection. With 100% UV Protection that can be crucial to long-term eye health.

Bifocal Lenses for Sunglasses

As people age, it becomes more difficult to clearly focus on objects that are near – it usually starts to happen to people in their 40s. The key sign that you may be developing presbyopia is that you need to hold reading text further from your eyes to see it clearly.

Bifocal lenses are designed to give good vision to people who have developed presbyopia. These lenses combine 2 prescriptions into one lens, normally the upper part for distance, used for activities such as driving – and the lower segment for near vision, reading or using phones or other devices.

Varifocal Lenses for Sunglasses

Varifocals (also known as progressive lenses) offer a seamless and convenient solution if you have multiple visual needs. They are similar to Bifocals, but have more than 2 areas of focus, instead applying a smooth transition of lens power from top to bottom. This eliminates the need for multiple pairs of glasses, and provides a comfortable experience at all distances.

The top portion of the lens caters to distance vision, allowing you to see objects far away with clarity. As you shift your gaze downward, the lens gradually increases in strength, accommodating intermediate distances for tasks like computer work or viewing objects at arm’s length. Finally, at the bottom of the lens, the prescription is optimised for reading, providing clear focus on close-up materials.

Our eyes change throughout our lifetime. Therefore, it is possible that over time you might notice changes to your vision which affects your ability to focus at a range of distances and especially to see things clearly at a close distance.

This is due to a reduction in flexibility of the lens within your eyes, a condition known as presbyopia.
