Are you concerned about your eyes? Perhaps you worry about whether you have an eye condition, but the idea of waiting a long time to see a specialist puts you off making an appointment. The good news is that Amar-Kaash Gandecha, our director, can now diagnose certain eye conditions at Opticare without the need for a hospital appointment.
Eye conditions can now be diagnosed and treated at Opticare
Amar-Kaash is now a qualified therapeutic optometrist, who can clinically assess acute eye conditions, and establish a diagnosis. He also decides what treatment you need and prescribes the correct medicine. His qualification allows him to prescribe any licensed medicine for ocular conditions, such as corneal ulcers, that affect the eyes and their surrounding tissues.
This means that you no longer need to be referred to the hospital if an eye condition is concerning you. Opticare ensures that you receive the best possible eye healthcare and management for your eye problem.
The Independent Prescribing for Optometrists Course
Amar-Kaash decided to undertake the stringent requirements of the Independent Prescribing for Optometrists course because he wanted to further his knowledge of optometry, so that he could provide a better service to his patients.
Many optometrists are only qualified to treat common eye conditions, such as conjunctivitis, so it is comforting to know that Amar-Kaash now offers skilled therapeutic eyecare.
What did the Independent Prescribing for Optometrists course involve?
Amar-Kaash successfully completed the Independent Prescribing for Optometrists course in March 2021. The course involved:
- attending a series of lectures at Aston University in 2019 followed by online lectures in 2020,
- submitting a succession of case studies based on real-life cases,
- completing a clinical placement at Leicester Royal Infirmary in December 2020, and
- passing a final exam set by the College of Optometrists.
The lectures focused on studying eye conditions and real-life cases, while the practical experience at Leicester Royal Infirmary concentrated on developing competency in prescribing medicine for patients with acute eye conditions.
Continuing Professional Development
Kaash is now registered on the specialty register of the General Optical Council. This requires him to obtain a minimum number of CPD points in therapeutics every year to maintain his registration.
His continuing education allows him to keep up to date with the latest developments in treating eye diseases, ensuring that he provides his patients with the best eye care and treatments available.
