When a patient visits us who is entitled to free NHS eye tests or an NHS voucher, General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) forms have to be completed by hand and returned to Primary Care Support England to process the claim. But not any more.
Introducing our eGOS system for faster, secure claims.
Primary Care Support England (PCSE) receives and manually processes nearly 20m handwritten GOS forms a year, from opticians all across England. This takes time to process and when they are written by hand mistakes can creep in. When errors do occur this can delay payments or the receipt of much-needed vouchers to our customers.
Our new eGOS tablet and pen synchronises with our in house practice management software and allows us to submit patients claims in real-time. Customer information is populated directly from the details we already have stored within our database and then claims can be authorised using electronic signatures.
It only takes minutes to get an answer and if there is a mistake, then that error can be quickly rectified and the forms submitted again.
The online service will bring a number of benefits:
- Greater accuracy of payments
- A more secure way of submitting claims
- They will be validated in real-time, flagging up any errors or omissions, reducing the number of rejected claims
- Providing more detailed statements at the click of a button
- Removing the need to post and manually process claims

“The new eGOS system has already given our NHS patients a better service. From quicker form fills to faster approvals, this has allowed us to serve them better within our practices. Also, the use of the system has reduced our paper usage and wastage, which fits in wonderfully with our ambition to become the greenest Opticians in Newark, Anstey, Sileby & Birstall.
“The fact that it also ties in with our existing computer systems means we run more efficiently and can keep our customer’s data up to date.”
