Water Filtration System Saves Over 45,000 Litres A Year

Recently (before the government restrictions) we have installed a new water filtration system in our store in Newark. The new system will save us over 45,000 litres of water a year or 150 litres per day.

The new filtration system is used in our lenses finishing process or lenses edging. We use the machine to filter the water and recycle it when we are making the final adjustments to your lenses before they are fitted into your frames.

This process used to use a lot of water to remove the small lens particles and stop scratching. Now our double filtering system continuously recycles the edging water and reduces our water consumption.

By filtering the water and recycling it, the water within the machine can be used for up to six months. It will only take a glass of water a day to replace the water lost through splatter and natural evaporation.

The double filter process makes sure the water is clean and free from particles. This not only complies with EU regulation in regards to wastewater but stops tiny particles being washed down the drain.

The closed-circuit water system allows water to be fed from a storage tank when in use during the day. This tank contains a filter drawer that performs the first filtration, retaining the largest cuttings while the smaller particles settle at the bottom of the tank. At night, the filtering cycle is run. Water passes alternately between the storage tank and the filtration tank to remove any suspended particles and clean the storage tank. Particles are then collected and stored in a filter bag.
