Ray-Ban x Meta Glasses – What’s The Hype?

Smart glasses are not a new invention, they were first introduced to us back in 2013 with Google Glass Explorer Edition and many companies have since jumped on the bandwagon. Unfortunately, most have been underwhelming with poor camera quality and hit and miss mics.

Meta and Mark Zuckerberg first announced their own lightweight AI glasses back in Autumn of 2021. From the get-go they made it clear they wanted to focus on weight, style, and comfort first. Their partnership with Ray-Ban was intended to emphasise this.

In October 2023, Meta and Ray-Ban released the second-generation smart glasses referred to as Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

The Smart Part

So, what makes Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses so smart?

Voice Command: Unlock a range of hands-free possibilities and stay connected to what matters. Call and message, capture content, and manage media settings all with your phone in your pocket.

Touch Control: Play your music, activate the camera, or connect with someone all in a single touch with the hyper-responsive touchpad and capture button.

Open-ear Speakers: Discreet speakers deliver an immersive audio surround sound experience for music and podcasts, with adaptive volume control that adjusts automatically to ambient sounds.

Charging Case: Focus on your day without interruption thanks to four hours of battery plus a portable charging case now with up to eight charges.

Companion App: Enhance the experience of your glasses with the Meta View app. Pair multiple glasses to your phone, discover key features via a new Home tab, and easily share content with friends.

Meta AI: Ask Meta AI questions on the go and receive real-time answers and information, recommendations or even some creative writing inspiration.

Transition Lenses: Seamlessly adapt from clear or slightly tinted indoors to fully dark outdoors so you can feel confident in your Ray-Ban Meta glasses all day long.

Controlling Your Experience

Your glasses are yours and your experience with them should reflect that. Enjoy peace of mind with controls that allow you to tailor your glasses to your needs.

Privacy Controls: Easy-to-access privacy settings in the Meta View app let you manage your information and choose whether to share additional data with Meta to improve the app and glasses.

Bystander Privacy: The capture LED lets others know when you’re capturing content or going live. If the LED is covered, you’ll be notified to clear it.

Accessibility: Ray-Ban Meta glasses provide helpful utility to those with reduced vision, hearing, or mobility by offering the ability to perform tasks that typically require using a phone, hands-free. You can even use your glasses to connect with the Be My Eyes network to get assistance from a sighted volunteer.

Styling Them Out

Ray-Ban Meta glasses come in 3 iconic frames: Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner.

You can pick both frame and lens colours and choose to make them polarised or light reactive – a good degree of customisation not found anywhere else. Naturally, they also work with prescription lenses.
