Solar Energy the Future for Opticare

We are proud to announce the completion of solar panelling at each one of our 4 branches; Newark plus Anstey, Birstall & Sileby in Leicester and Loughborough.

The panels have been installed on the roofs of each practice and will provide a renewable energy source for each shop. This will allow us to reduce our environmental impact in each town and village we have a branch.

Our team in each branch, along with the directors, have been working together over the past year to become greener. We have introduced schemes and working practices to reduce our plastic waste in-store and the introduction of solar panels is just another step in our goal of becoming the greenest opticians on the high street.

Mr Shah (Associate Optometrist), said: “Statistics report that by 2050, everything should be 100% renewable. For our business, now is the right time to try and make a difference as we look to ensure the practices are future-proofed for the long-term.”

Even though it will take time to see the true benefits of solar power, we hope in the future it will allow us to pass on savings to our customers.

The decision to invest in solar power was made easier when one of our directors had them installed at home. Having experienced at first hand what solar panels could provide, it made it an easier decision for our branches.

Mr Shah added: “Whether you are a small practice or a big practice, we should all be doing our bit to help the environment and it’s important to show our patients that we are doing this too.”

Other environmental friendly schemes we provide to our customers is the recycling of contact lenses. Billions of contact lenses are thrown away or flushed away every year, and we want to do our bit to help reduce this plastic waste. We now have a scheme where a customer can bring in their used contact lenses and we will pass them on to be recycled. This even includes the recycling of the blister packaging and foil.
